Writing a dating profile at 50: sound like yourself, not a résumé

At 50 you have a life to describe, which is exactly the problem. Most profiles read like a résumé because that’s the shape people know for "here’s who I am in short form." The good news is that the fix is smaller than you think.

Why "loves travel, food, and laughing" doesn't work

Because everyone wrote it. Those three words tell a reader nothing specific enough to picture a person. The point of a profile is not to describe you in general — it's to give one honest reader a reason to know it's you.

Replace categories with moments

Instead of "I love travel," try "I take one slow trip a year — last one was two weeks in Puglia driving to no plan." Instead of "I love food," try "I bake a loaf of bread most Saturdays and I'm still not that good at it." A specific moment does the work of a paragraph.

Say what you're actually looking for

Not "someone kind and honest" — everyone wrote that too. Try: "I'd like to end up with someone I can be quietly bored with on a Sunday." Or: "I want a partner who argues kindly and doesn't hold on to it." Specifics do two things. They filter (which is what you want). And they signal that you know yourself, which is more attractive than any single trait.

The one line that changes the read of the whole thing

Include something you're a little afraid to include. Not a red flag — a truth. "I'm two years out of a long marriage and I take my time." "I stopped drinking three years ago and I haven't missed it." "I'm closer to my dog than most of my cousins." The vulnerable specific is what makes a stranger recognize a person.

Photos, briefly

  • One clear face photo. Not sunglasses. Not a hat.
  • One full body, not staged. Yes, really.
  • One photo of you doing the thing you actually enjoy.
  • No group photos as the first image, ever.
  • No photo more than two years old. People notice.

Read it out loud before you post it

If it doesn't sound like something you'd say to a friend at dinner, rewrite the line. That's the whole test.

Where LoveUIDo does this differently

On LoveUIDo, your dating profile is only one side of the picture. The other side — the private love profile that Aisa builds with you — is what actually finds your matches. That means the public profile can breathe: it doesn't have to explain how you love. It just has to sound like you.
